November 2011 - Note about Barebow field shooting from Peter Turner

Whilst checking archer shooting equipment at Chippenham Field Tournament , I found a B/B archer with a rubber washer(s)  behind the  weigh attached to the bow, which I requested he removed. He stated that a coach had suggested he put it there to dampen vibration.

This form of TFC/ rubber washers are specifically banned for any  B/B archery (Target, Field ,Flight ,Clout). Vibration dampers that are attached to the bow limbs or handle are permitted, but not to act as a TFC, under weights. Built in TFC are permitted so long as they are not used (as in the old Yamaha).

I am assuming that the coach was from GWAS area , but I did not note the archers name or request the coaches name.

June 2011 - Information for Judges, Tournament Organisers and Archers re the New Judge Uniform

This update takes precedence over all other information up to and including 12 May 2011

In light of various communications that The Judges Committee have become aware of recently, it has become apparent that there is still confusion in relation to the New Judge Uniform and therefore the following will clear up any misunderstanding for Judges and Tournament Organisers.

The New Uniform was democratically voted in by the serving Judges throughout the UK. It is now in the process of being implemented.

All judges (as of 01.02.2011) will be issued a shirt and a pair of trousers by Archery GB to assist with the cost of change. (See ordering instructions for how you do this).

The New Uniform is to be worn at the NATIONAL events this year – that is those events where the Judges are appointed by The Committee (Lilleshall events, and the National Clout, Flight, Field and Indoor).

For this year (2011) only, Judges may wear EITHER uniform at all other shoots. It is accepted that there will be a mix and match during the transition period. The choice of uniform is that of the Judge.

After 01.01.2012 the New Uniform will be worn AT ALL WORLD RECORD STATUS AND UK RECORD STATUS (FITA STAR/ROSE AWARD/ARROWHEAD) TOURNAMENTS.

At these events it is the entire uniform that is compulsory – the shirt and trousers/skirt and your choice of the jackets. No items of the old uniform are to be worn.

Judges who choose not to comply will be in breach of the Rules of Shooting:

Rule 307: (iv) Members of the Society who are officiating as the Chairman of Judges, Judge or Director of Shooting at a UK or World Record Status tournament shall wear GNAS recognised Judges official dress.

At other events (non-record status) the new uniform is not compulsory - however it is expected that judges will wear their issued New Uniform at all events, complementing it with either the New Uniform waterproofs/jackets or the old blazer.

Judges may retain the blazer for formal events (conferences etc) if they wish, but there will be no requirement to do this.

Candidate Judges – It is not a requirement to purchase the New Uniform until the County Assessment is passed. Until this point, Green and/or White can be worn. If candidates wish to purchase the uniform before passing an assessment they may do so.

Deer Park Archers have won an award at the Junior Sports Club of the Year awards and have been invited to an awards dinner in London on the 3rd May.  This is great news for Club, County (Gloucestershire) and the Region and Archery GB.  Without this support they we would not have been able to compete for the award.

Well Done Roger and all the Club.

Paul Callaway presented the GNAS Services to Archery Certificate

At the Devon and Cornwall Archery Society and Redruth Double FITA Star, Lynne Evans presented Paul Callaway with a Services to Archery certificate.  Paul was nominated for the certificate for the work he has put into Archery within our region.  Paul was completely unaware of the nomination or presentation until he was called up during the final results at the shoot.  Paul was heard to say "I wished someone could have tipped me off.  I would have put on a clean shirt!".  Paul had spent the weekend working as field crew with his club colleagues
